1996 Plymouth Voyager

Aerodynamically sexier than its forerunners, the 1996 Plymouth Voyager, exudes
practicality and sophistication, without the haggard family mini van look. The
new Voyager minivans could be added with a sliding door on the driver's side,
and center and rear seats had built-in "Easy Out" rollers. All models had a
sliding door on the passenger side, plus a one-piece rear liftgate. All 1996 Plymouths
Voyager comes only in base and SE trim. Dual airbags and antilock braking were
typical at first, but ABS became an option on base minivans during the 1996 model
year.
All models were front-drive. Base engine was a new 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with
dual camshafts. Two V6s were available: 3.0- and 3.3-liter, making 150 and 158
horsepower, in that order. Calmer and even more car like than before, the 1996
Plymouth Voyager handle more like large sedans than vans. Steering is easy and
accurate, and the suspension provides steady cornering with only minimal body
lean. The suspension easily irons out most smaller rough spots, and the ride is
unperturbed overall.
For 1996, the Plymouth Voyager has a roomier interior, which is well designed.
A new dashboard with larger gauges and controls that were revised to make it within
comfortable reach of the driver makes the 1996 Voyager very driver friendly. Passengers
seat on supportive chair-height seats, while bigger windows and a lower dashboard
improved visibility. Front seat adjustment also has been augmented, as has middle-row
headroom. A wider body also gives extra shoulder and hip space. Entry and exit
also is easier. Once again, the Chrysler Mini Van trio has done it again. It would
be hard to beat them in the mini van segment.
